Kobu the Baku - Funkyipuppet FIP Collectable Creature Card 006

Funkyipuppet FIP Collectable Creature Card 006:

Kobu (kobuashi)

“The Stone Guardian Turned Dream Eater”

Type: Yokai – Baku / Dreamwalker

Origin: Earth’s Sacred Mountains and the Realm of Frequencies

Appearance:

Kobu stands as a towering, elephant-like Baku yokai with rugged, stone-like skin etched with ancient symbols. His ox-like horns resemble antennae, crackling with faint energy, remnants of his past efforts to block corrupted frequencies. His eyes shimmer like polished obsidian, reflecting dreams and nightmares alike. His heavy form hints at his former identity as a stone kodama, yet his movements carry a burdensome grace, weighed by the echoes of dreams he cannot fully process.

Backstory:

Summoned by the Sennin wizard Yokai, Benzoo, Kobu was forged from the essence of a mountain kodama to defend children’s dreams from Atomikkkan—a technological nightmare poisoning minds with distorted frequencies. Initially a grounded protector, his stone-kodama roots allowed him to block only lower frequencies, leaving him overwhelmed by the rising waves of toxic dreams.

When Benzoo summoned Kobu’s brother, Zenzoo, to share the burden, Kobu spiraled into prideful survivalism. His struggle to maintain purity warped into self-sabotage, leading to the birth of psychological conditions like imposter syndrome. Kobu’s battle reached a breaking point when Atomikkkan’s explosion fractured the dream realm, disorienting him and forcing him into human-like existence.

Separated from Zenzoo, Kobu wandered lost until a Kappa yokai lifted him skyward, delivering him to the interdimensional barge of Symphonu. There, Kobu reunited with Zenzoo, gaining refuge under Symphonu’s guidance, but remained burdened by the nightmares he consumed and unable to reconnect with his Baku heritage.

Personality:

Kobu is proud, serious, Stubborn, hides it most of the time - but enjoys a good laugh—a brooding figure who masks his insecurities with sternness. Haunted by fragmented memories of corrupted dreams, he struggles with self-doubt and imposter syndrome, often mumbling complaints under his breath. He clings to the idea of reclaiming his status as an ancient Baku and mastering the ways of the Sennin, yet his pride blinds him to his own shortcomings.

Despite his internal turmoil, Kobu harbors a deep longing to restore balance and protect others, even if his methods are rigid and humorlessly serious. He denies his creative side, suppressing his musical talents and refusing to embrace his funk, leaving him trapped in the melancholic rhythms of the blues.

Abilities:

• Dream Consumption: Devours nightmares to cleanse the dreamscape but struggles with overloading and digesting dark energies.

• Telepathy: Reads minds and senses emotions, though often clouded by his own insecurities.

• Telekinesis: Manipulates objects through mental force, reflecting his stubborn willpower.

• Teleportation: Shifts through dimensions, though prone to instability due to his fragmented psyche.

• Frequency Shielding: Harnesses his stone-kodama roots to block low-level radiation and corrupted energies, but cannot fully process higher frequencies without Zenzoo’s support.

Current Role:

Under Symphonu’s mentorship, Kobu strives to rediscover his lost Baku powers and refine his abilities as a dreamweaver. Though outwardly resistant to learning, he secretly admires Symphonu and longs to emulate his wisdom and mastery. As the self-proclaimed “big brother” to Zenzoo, Kobu often acts as if he knows best, masking his insecurity with authority.

His ultimate goal is to evolve beyond his fractured state, reclaim his divine purpose, and wield the power of a Sennin-level dream guardian. Yet his journey is hampered by his inability to process feelings, his fixation on seriousness, and his resistance to embracing his suppressed creativity and humor.

Key Traits:

• Strengths: Resilient, protective, fiercely loyal, and determined.

• Weaknesses: Prideful, emotionally blocked, humorless (unknowingly funny), and prone to internal overloads.

• Motivations: Redemption, mastery, and the restoration of sacred dreamscapes.

• Fears: Losing his identity, failure to protect others, and succumbing to corrupted dreams.

Theme Song:

“Blues for the Broken Guardian” – A mournful yet soulful melody reflecting Kobu’s inner struggle and longing for harmony.

Kobu’s Signature Move: "Echo Reverberation"

Description:

Kobu channels the unprocessed dreams and nightmares trapped within him, sending out a deep, resonant shockwave from his ox-like horns. This vibrational pulse can either purge corrupted energy,

restoring balance to dreamscapes, or unleash a powerful disruption,

causing enemies to be overwhelmed by fragmented visions of forgotten dreams.

Effect:

  • Purification Mode: When used with focus and clarity, "Echo Reverberation" can neutralize lingering nightmare energy, calming the environment and restoring balance to those affected by dream corruption.

  • Disruption Mode: If used when overwhelmed, it creates an unstable feedback loop, distorting reality around him and forcing enemies to relive fractured, looping dream sequences, leaving them dazed and vulnerable.

Visual:As Kobu stomps the ground, ancient symbols on his body begin to glow like molten gold, and his horns crackle with charged energy.

The air ripples outward like invisible sound waves, causing the surroundings to flicker between dream and reality.

Weakness:Because Kobu struggles to fully process the dream energy within him, he risks overloading if he uses this power recklessly. If the energy isn’t properly grounded, he may be pulled into a dream trance, temporarily losing awareness of his surroundings.

Motto:

"Dreams are heavy... but echoes carry far."

Would you like a secondary ability to complement this? Maybe something to help him stabilize when he's overwhelmed?
