Twenty's debut album, Yourself or Someone Like You, was released in 1996. While it was a bit late to the grunge-rock party that had been defined by early-90s acts like Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam, the band's dedication to building their fan base through incessant touring helped push the album to multi-platinum status. The album's success established Matchbox Twenty as a definitive example of the alternative genre.

The band formed in Orlando, Florida in the early 1990s. Singer/songwriter Rob Thomas met drummer Paul Doucette and bassist Brian Yale, and the three played together in various bands for several years. In 1996, they added guitarists Adam Gaynor and Kyle Cook to complete the lineup. The band quickly gained a following in the Orlando area, and they soon signed a record deal with Lava Records.

"3 am" is one of the many fan favorites from the "Yourself or someone like you" album~~enjoy!

The release of Yourself or Someone Like You in 1996 was a major success. The album spawned several hit singles, including "Push," "3AM," and "Real World." The album was certified 12x platinum in the United States, and it has sold over 12 million copies worldwide.

In 2000, Matchbox Twenty released their second album, Mad Season. The album was also a success, and it spawned the hit singles "Bent" and "Back 2 Good."

In 2004, rhythm guitarist Adam Gaynor left the band. The band continued on as a four-piece, and they released a compilation album in 2007 called Exile on Mainstream. The album went gold in the United States.

"Bent" is a song by American alternative rock band Matchbox Twenty. The rock ballad was shipped to radio on April 17, 2000, as the lead single from their second album, Mad Season, and was given a commercial release in the United States on July 5, 2000. "Bent" became the band's first and only song to top the US Billboard Hot 100, reaching number one on the chart dated July 22, 2000, and spending one week at the position. The song also topped the RPM 100 Hit Tracks chart in Canada for five nonconsecutive weeks.

The song was written by lead singer Rob Thomas and was inspired by his relationship with his then-girlfriend, actress Heather Locklear. The song's lyrics deal with the themes of love, loss, and redemption.

The song's music video was directed by Joseph Kahn and features Thomas and the rest of the band performing the song in a variety of locations, including a desert, a city street, and a pool. The video also features Thomas's then-girlfriend, Heather Locklear.

"Bent" was a critical and commercial success, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and becoming Matchbox Twenty's signature song. The song was also nominated for two Grammy Awards, including Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

Here are some of the song's lyrics:

  • "I started out clean but I'm jaded just for me But I'm back to breaking me"

  • "If I couldn't see pictures would you sympathize with me? I started out clean but I'm jaded just for me But I'm back to breaking me"

  • "If I could hold you close I would never let you go But I'm so complicated"

  • "If I couldn't sleep would you sympathize with me? I started out clean but I'm jaded just for me But I'm back to breaking me"

The song's lyrics are about a person who is struggling with their emotions. They are feeling jaded and broken, but they are also trying to find a way to heal. The song is a powerful reminder that even when we are feeling our lowest, there is always hope for redemption.

Matchbox Twenty took a hiatus in 2008, while Rob Thomas pursued a solo career. The band reunited in 2010, and they released their fourth studio album, North, in 2012. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart.
